[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The University of Findlay, Ohio recently played host to Thriving Families: A Conference for Families and Helping Professionals to Listen, Learn, and Get Stronger Together. The name of the conference perfectly encapsulates its agenda, offering sessions for professionals in education, social services, counseling, ministry and more.

The Hancock County System of Care Grant focused on the effectiveness of family inclusion in care planning and the integration of family voice into service delivery. The one-day event was keynoted by Dr. Dennis Daley and our own Dr. Ralph Tarter. A number of intimate breakout sessions in the afternoon generated healthy discussion and feedback on practical strategies for frontline behavioral healthcare workers.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”1964″ img_size=”800×420″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_column_text]Dr. Dennis Daley delivered a moving keynote on Helping Families Affected by Substance Use Disorders. The roundtable setup in the Winebrenner Auditorium facilitated discussion among attendees as Dr. Daley walked through insights gained from his lengthy career in clinical services, teaching and research in treatment and recovery from substance use and co-occurring disorders. His morning keynote was followed by a Q&A session of spirited discussion with attendees.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”1963″ img_size=”800×420″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_column_text]Dr. Ralph Tarter, creator of the world-renowned DUSI (Drug Use Screening Inventory) delivered the opening keynote. Director of the Center for Education and Drug Abuse Research (CEDAR) and Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Tarter has written 11 books and produced 300 peer-reviewed publications over his 40+ year career.

His keynote, What have We Learned from the Past 500 Million Years?, took the audience time traveling through the evolution of addiction and explored the complex bases for the opioid epidemic and mental health disorders that are impacting the most vulnerable populations today.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”1965″ img_size=”800×420″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_column_text]In addition to Dr. Tarter’s opening keynote, we were also asked to present our unique solution for empowering behavioral health clinicians to deliver more positive long-term outcomes for their clients. I wrapped up the afternoon with a presentation of our eINSIGHT behavioral health data platform and walked through how behavioral health, corrections, schools, drug and mental health courts are currently addressing their challenges.

Having worked closely with Dr. Tarter on the development of eINSIGHT and working with administrators and frontline staff on a daily basis, I enjoyed presenting a solution that many clinicians had no idea existed. We looked at:

• accelerating the screening process and using validated assessments
• targeting treatment for the unique needs of each client
• quantifying each client’s response to treatment
• demonstrating the effectiveness of programs with measurable results

With a well-balanced mix of theoretical research and practical application, the Thriving Families conference delivered an exceptional experience to attendees.
